Never Underestimate


1) the power of grief to prevent posting (sorry about that!)...I really hope some of you are still out there and haven't totally forgotten me!
2) the power of being broke to inspire one to finish an enormous spinning project rather than spend $50 on yarn (yes, I spun up ALL that cotton/silk in an unprecendented binge)


and 3) the power of a dyebath to alleviate a blue mood.















I tied the skeins with string every few inches to create white patches in the blue...hoping for a tweedy effect. Also, I dyed the yarn using acid dyes, expecting the color to take mostly on the silk component of the blend (30%), and hardly at all on the cotton part (70%) which also contributes to the tweediness, and then too, there's the uneven tendency of kettle dying.

Swatching...and finally, after seeing that I have PLENTY of yarn for a drapey top rather than a close-fitting one, I chose the following pattern from Big Girl Knits:
